It's no surprise to me that National Chocolate Mousse Day, and World Party Day coincide. As a Mediterranean Diet advocate, I don't spend a lot of time promoting the charms of chocolate desserts, but when the craving calls, treats can be as satisfying. American movie scenes always depict women eating ice cream in life's less sweet moments. I, however, prefer the light, Italian-style chocolate mousse that my mom still whips up for me when my spirits need soothing.
Decadent
Chocolate Mousse/
Spuma di Cioccolato
This is my
favorite chocolate mousse recipe. Its one of the most requested desserts for classes and parties. Since
only a few ingredients are used, make sure that they are the best quality
possible. Note that recipe needs to chill overnight.
Serves 6
Ingredients
2
tablespoons granulated sugar
8 ounces
semi-sweet chocolate, Fair Trade if possible
3
eggs
1
cup whipping cream, whipped until stiff, plus extra for garnish
1
tablespoon orange liqueur or vanilla or chocolate, if desired
Preparation
Preheat oven
to 200F. Put Chocolate pieces in a small ovenproof bowl or glass pan and place
in the oven for a few minutes until chocolate has melted. Remove and allow to
cool. Beat eggs until foamy. Once chocolate is cooled, whisk eggs slowly into
mixture until incorporated. Stir in flavoring, if using. Fold in whipped cream.
Spoon mousse into individual glasses or a large bowl. Allow to chill overnight.
Garnish with additional whipped cream, if desired.
